IN HER SHOES
This brand-new work by the internationally-acclaimed dancer, choreographer and 2016 Standard Bank Young Artist Award winner Luyanda Sidiya, will premiere at the Market Theatre for a short season.
Sidiya’s In Her Shoes delves deeply into the personas of women and their struggles to survive and be heard.
As a male choreographer and a father of two daughters, Sidiya asks: “What if women could show their true selves with no fear of judgment or prejudice?”
His cast of Nomasonto Radebe, Joyce Hopane, Nommangaliso Tebeka and Lesoko V Seabe will stage their exploration of the values and principles in place to nurture a baby girl and how they influence the status quo.
Using the traditional and the modern as two ends of the spectrum, this work unpacks the lived experience of modern women in the face of patriarchy.
Questions about who women are submissive to and what they are informed by are brought to life in this production.
Do we turn a blind eye to our true selves, do we carry shattered dreams in our minds, do they remain dormant within us, is our courage and strength burdened by a fear that paralyses for eternity?
