SELLO MEDUPE: SETTING SIGHTS ON PARIS SHOWCASE NEXT YEAR

Showcasing textured hues of pastel colours at the recent Africa Fashion International week in Midrand, Scalo designs is a South African fashion brand that represents quality and style since 2009. Founded in Johannesburg by Soweto-born designer Sello Medupe, 28, the label works on the basis of passion and creativity, fused with the dynamism of a Joburg attitude. Medupe’s recent range from the spring/summer 17 collection included a modern sophisticated and futuristic look which is captured in sorbet colours for both men and women. “The collection is inspired by rainbow colours, UV and diamond light. The emotion or mood of the collection is taken from happy thoughts. Shine was evoked from the brightness of the colours,” adds the designer. His ethos, to revolutionise shape, is paramount to the brand’s philosophy which brings out a great fit and a fluttering silhouette. Medupe aims to bring out a fresh and innovative approach to design, in order to create wearable yet cutting edge clothes. The brand has taken on a strong presence for itself among fans and supporters of the designer as it remains distinguished, creative and sparks an emotionally present.
In 2015 Scalo was invited to privately showcase for Her Majesty Masenate Mohato Seeiso, the Queen of Lesotho, and is soon to showcase a range at the Paris Fashion Week in 2018.

Since his debut in the industry, Medupe has dressed a range of A-list celebrities like actress and performer Thembi Seete, award-winning Afro-pop singer Lira, Nandi Madida and former Miss SA Teen Zizo Tshwete.
