We’ve lost the moral high ground

-

The hateful and insensitive words of Andile Mngxitama, pictured, leader of Black First Land First, regarding the Holocaust in a tweet should be condemned in the strongest words by all people.

Either Mngxitama’s knowledge of the Holocaust is lacking or he is in the pocket of those extremist groups known for their hatred of Jews. I can think of no other reasons why any person would trivialise and denigrate a horrific event such as the Holocaust in which innocent men, women and children were killed in the most inhumane way.

To make such statements in a day and age where so much information is available about the atrocities of the Holocaust is unforgiveable. This is a serious matter and should be dealt with the urgency it deserves.

Unfortunately, the Mngxitamas of our world is indicative of the failure of the nation-building and reconciliation experiment which looked so promising in 1994.

Only poor political leadership is to blame for the unravelling of our society.

We sadly lost the moral high ground for which the entire world envied us at the beginning of our new dispensation. Willie Paterson
