Zackey, Domeyer get off to flying start in 2017-18 season

The 2017-18 season is almost one month old and two jockeys have sprung into an early lead. Craig Zackey leads the field with 16 winners while just one victory behind him is Aldo Domeyer on 15.

Zackey lives up to the motto “have saddle, will travel” as he is quite happy to fly all over the country for his rides and must be one of the busiest jockeys in the country.

He has also been a very profitable jockey to follow because if you put R1 on each of his rides this month you would be showing a profit of R56.50.

Domeyer has been riding predominantly in Cape Town this season and has only ridden 59 horses.

That makes his win rate 25.42% with 61% of his mounts finishing in the top four. You would be up R7.10 if you put R1 on each of his runners.

Hot on their heels are Callan Murray and apprentice Lyle Hewitson with 12 winners each and they are followed by Muzi Yeni, Gunter Wrogemann and Keagan de Melo.

As far as the trainers are concerned it is Alec Laird who has a marginal lead over Justin Snaith. Laird’s runners have earned R1,068,650 while Snaith’s have brought in R1,010,025. Laird has had seven winners while Snaith has had 12.

It is funny to see three-time Champion Trainer Sean Tarry in 32nd spot but we all know he is giving his runners a rest and once they come out in full force the order at the top of the table will change dramatically.
