The 27 entries in the Volkswagen Challenge will enjoy top billing.

The Red Star Raceway near Delmas will host round 10 of this year's Extreme Festival series on Saturday, with six competitio­n categories, on four and two wheels, scheduled to participat­e.

As always, the circuit's variety of tight, narrow and twisty corners plus a long straight will test drivers and machinery to the full.

Top billing in the car categories will belong to the Volkswagen Challenge brigade, with a total of 27 cars on the entry list.

Pre-event victory favourites should include Wayne Masters (Performanc­e Masters VW Polo), Stiaan Kriel (Spanjaard Polo), Devon Piazza-Musso (Allegiane Polo), Wayne Crous (Delway Polo), Waldie Meintjies (VW Polo), Leon Odendaal (G&H Transport Polo), Lyle Ramsay (Monroe Polo) and Andy Gossman (Dimension Signs Polo).

The 111 Sports and Saloon Car category will field more than 20 cars, led by people like Gerhard Henning (Toyota Parts VW Polo), Tony Sharp (AIPM Alfa Romeo Giulietta), Lucas Bezuidenho­ut (Pta North Toyota Lexus), Louis Cloete (AMS Tuning VW Beetle), Johan Hattingh (Nissan 350Z) and Phillip Emmenis (BMW E36 M3).

Earlier this year, the autObarn SuperHatch races at Red Star produced no-holds-barred racing between Brett Garland (autObarn Honda Civic) and Jonathan du Toit (TAR Honda Civic).

Their season-long fight for superiorit­y should continue this Saturday, with possible interventi­on by drivers like Nic Martin (Daddy Cool Opel Kadett), Andre'Dannhauser (Pro Auto Rubber Opel Corsa), Mel Spurr (Wealth Avenue VW Polo), Karel Stols (Pta Noord Toyota Run-X), Ishmael Baloyi (TAR Honda Civic) and Craig Priestley (Tactical Fluid Ford Laser).

The Bridgeston­e Thunderbik­es and Bridgeston­e Sub-10 Superbikes should race together.

Thunderbik­e winners could include riders like Chris du Plessis (Yamaha R1), Shaun Vermaak (Fourways Kawasaki ZX10), Rick Carmody (Honda CBR1000) and Marnus van der Merwe (Kawasaki ZX10).

Sub-10 riders at the front end should be Byron Rothquel (Mag Magic BMW S1000), Conrad Clark iDube Projects Kawasaki ZX10R), Keith Agliotti (Edenvale Gearbox Honda CBR), Gareth Jackson (Morphine Kawasaki ZX10R) and Carlos Taveres (Frost Kawasaki ZX10R).

There will be two races for Bridgeston­e Challenge contenders, with front-runners expected to include Deon de Beer (No Rules BMW 1000RR), Kyle Tavares (Frost Honda CBR1000), Ian Thomas (SA Compressor Hire Kawasaki ZX6R) and Loutjie Vermeulen (Suzuki GXR).

There will be two races for National Championsh­ip Sports Cars,

with entries like James Forbes (Ipcoweb ADR MCE3), Matt Nash (NASH MVW3) and Gerald Wright

Wright (Sports 2000) taking to the tarmac.

Gates will be open from 7am.
