Burning Mist looks hot as a Fairview Pick 6 banker

- Nicci Garner

The Pick 6 at Fairview is often challenging and last Friday the popular bet paid R209,062 to the holders of 7.18 tickets.

One player proved then you don’t need to play big to win big at race meetings there, when he won a portion of the dividend R163,330 - for only R100.

The Polytrack card today is also quite demanding but punters will know their fate early because the banker bet comes in Race 3, a 1000m Maiden Plate.

The horse in question is Burning Mist, a three-year-old Trippi filly who hails from the Alan Greeff yard and will be ridden by Teaque Gould.

She has placed in three of her four starts, most recently going down four lengths into third behind Tiger Star in a race over this course and distance where Kirinia finished 0.50 lengths behind her in fourth.

The fourth-placed runner came out to win next time, franking the form nicely.

Burning Mist also had Strawberry Girl two lengths behind her in fifth with Benedetta seventh and should confirm the form with both.

Strawberry Girl had previously run third to Butterfly Spirit and another Greeff-trained runner War Of Roses, who only failed by a neck in her first start after a layoff. War Of Roses should confirm the form. She went on to run a tired fourth behind Widow’s Lamp over 1200m in yielding going but will be close to a peak now.

Although having her first start on the Polytrack, she reverts to what may be her best distance and looks the right one for the Exacta and Swingers.

Quartet and Trifecta players are advised to watch the betting on Greeff-trained firsttimer Boxley, the mount of the Easter Cape’s champion jockey Greg Cheyne and others to consider for the minor placings are Benedetta and Profs Pet.
