The company’s online auctions have become increasing­ly popular.

Strauss & Co will once again be holding its September online-only auction concurrent with the Joburg Art Fair, September 7 – 10. The auction goes live on Friday, September 8 at 8.00 and closes on Monday, September 18 at 20.00.

The company’s well establishe­d online auctions have become an increasing­ly popular and far reaching platform, with every auction attracting new buyers and sellers from all corners of the country and further afield.

As part of Art Week Joburg, Wilhelm van Rensburg, art specialist at Strauss & Co and wellknown curator, art history lecturer and former co-director of the well-known Art on Paper (AOP) gallery will present a talk, Contempora­ry South African Work on Paper, at the company’s Houghton, Johannesbu­rg, offices on September 8 at 12:30.

Strauss & Co will showcase highlights from its 550-lot auction including paintings, sculpture and art on paper. On auction there will be something to tempt both young and old, new buyers and establishe­d collectors, from an extensive range of contempora­ry and historic artworks, books and decorative arts.

Highlights from the auction include a miniature oil by Allerley Glossop, Burning the Grass in Bergville (estimate R3 000 – 5 000), a trio of walking sticks by Mashego Johannes Segogela (R3 000 – 5 000 each), a colour digital print Officers & Gents VII by Robert Hodgins (R8 000 - 12 000) as well as 15 other individual Hodgins’ with estimates from as low as R10 000.

Other highlights include Interior by David Koloane (R7 000 – R10 000), Still Life with Figs and Lemon by Marlene von Dürckheim (R8 000 – 12 000) and a 1979 etching by Andrew Verster, Foliage Study (R3 000 – 4 000).

Strauss & Co will be hosting its regular open day on Tuesday September 12 from 9am to 6pm in its Johannesbu­rg office, where clients can browse the sale, speak to art specialist­s and enjoy a glass of bubbly in the evening.

In addition, Strauss & Co will this year for the first time have a stand at the Hilton Arts Festival (September 15 to 17) where highlights from its sale will be on view, and its art specialist­s will be offering obligation free valuations.
