Remember, not all of our Metro cops are bad
I salute those officers who turned down a bribe, writes Miyelani Hlungwani from Mukhomi Village.
In Xitsonga, we say tamatisi rin’we ro bola ri borisa ni laman’wana, meaning if a person in a group is rotten, he can ruin those around him as well. Corrupt JMPD officers make the others look bad, while they are all not bad. Credit should be given where it is due.
I salute and congratulate two JMPD officers who turned down a R10 000 bribe at a scrapyard in Langlaagte after the officers received a tip-off about the scrapyard owner buying stolen scrap metal.
On their arrival, the officers found six bags and six drums containing copper cables which resembled the city’s property.
To be honest, some officers leave no stone unturned and do their job diligently. They are trying their best to root out corruption and crime.
They must continue to maintain visibility in our cities and other places where crime takes place. They must search vehicles for illegal and dangerous weapons and contraband on a daily basis.
No more time for traffic law violators. I consider officers of our armed forces heroes because they risk their lives every day to protect our country and make it a better place to live in.
I wonder why there are people out there who hate and kill police officers.
There is insufficient support for the officers and other law enforcement agencies. Even new officers must feel appreciated and enjoy protecting their communities.
