Racetrack gets a new lease on life
The Vereeniging tarred oval circuit in the town’s showgrounds has been dramatically upgraded.
Now called the Ultimate Raceway, the 400m oval has been completely resurfaced to make it one of the country’s fastest facilities of its kind.
The venue has a new entrance, off Boy Louw Street in the town, with its formal addres 20 Van Riebeeck Street, Vereeniging.
For spectators, the grandstands have been upgraded and repainted, with sponsorship from Plascon Paints.
That apart, all the toilets have been spruced up, while the venue boasts a brand new clubhouse with a bar, restaurant and a Kiddies Play Zone.
Honda supplies the venue with a Pace Car and push vehicles for the race cars.
The Ultimate Raceway will have eight separate racing classes, namely V8 Sprint Cars, Stock Rods, HotRods. Ninja karts, 1660cc Saloon Cars, Pinto Saloon Cars, Super Saloon Cars and Two-Litre Saloon Cars.
According to spokesperson Cornelle Pieterse the public love the new venue, with both competitors and spectators commenting favourably about the new ease of entry, cleanliness and comfort.
The owners are negotiating with various other sponsors, and expect to make some important announcements in the near future.
Their opening race meeting will be on Saturday, September 30.
