Toyota triumphs at Cross Country 2017

Saturday’s Sun City 400 race, round five of the 2017 South African Cross Country Championsh­ip, turned into a Toyota whitewash at the front end.

Giniel de Villiers and Dennis Murphy (Toyota Gazoo Hilux) won the event, to wrap up this year’s overall championsh­ip.

They led home Class T leaders Johan/Werner Horn (Malalane Toyota Hilux) and Jason Venter/ Vince van Allemann (4x4 Mega World Toyota Hilux).

Fourth overall were Lance Woolridge/Ward Huxtable (Puma Lubricants Ford Ranger), Dana Vos/Cornel Burger (BMW X3), Brian Baragwanat­h/Leonard Cremer (Ford Ranger), Henk Lategan/ Barry White (Puma Lubricants Ford Ranger) and Shameer Variawa/ Zaheer Bodhanya (Navara).

Rounding out the top 10 were Luke Botha/Andre Vermeulen (Red-Lined Nissan Navara), and Johan van Staden/Mike Lawrenson (Elf Renault Duster).

The Special Vehicle category was won overall by the husband and wife team of Marius and Jolinda Fourie (PHB BAT), leading home Evan Hutchison/Danie Stassen (King Price Extreme BAT Viper), Stefan van Pletzen/Jaco Pieterse (Live Lesotho Chenowth), Keith Makenete/Ferdie Pieterse (BAT), John Telford/Victor Ntsekhe (Calcamite Hellcat), Nic Goslar/ Andrew Massey (SA Clinics Zarco Magnum) and Visser du Plessis/ Elvéne Coetzee (King Price Extreme Porter).

The final two finishers were Talha/Tahar Moosajee (Jimco) and Andrew Makenete/Taelo Mochebelel­e (Zarco Magnum).

The final championsh­ip event of the year will be the Atlas Copco 400 at the Kloof Country Club, in Westonaria, on October 27 and 28.
