Tinkler ready to ring the changes

Eric Tinkler (left) has hinted he will rotate his SuperSport United squad, but at the same time will not make too many changes in tonight’s Absa Premiership clash with Chippa United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Matsatsantsa have their sights set on the second leg of the Caf Confederation Cup quarterfinal against Zesco United n Zambia on Saturday.

First up though, they have to deal with the Chilli Boys, who recently sacked Dan Malesela and replaced him with his one-time assistant Teboho Moloi on an interim basis.

Moloi’s first game in charge on Saturday night ended in a 0-0 draw at Platinum Stars.

“We always talk about having depth in the squad, but the important thing is that we can’t be making seven changes,” said the former Orlando Pirates coach.

“There is no team in the world that does that. If you watch the Real Madrids and Barcelonas of this world, they play their players at least twice a week. What becomes important is how we rest the players in between.

“We obviously need to make certain changes, there are certain players we believe need that rest. That is why I made the changes against Platinum Stars, choosing to rest Morgan Gould and Reneilwe Letsholonyane.”

Tinkler was impressed by Thabo Mnyamane’s efforts, although he withdrew the 25-year-old just after an hour against Zesco.

“I thought Thabo did very well, he has been out for quite a while now. I think the way he played in the first 20 minutes was probably the best football we have played so far this season.”

Fellow winger Thuso Phala is one player who is expected to be given a rest as he has so far played in all of their games.

are now tied on six points with Maritzburg United, who also bagged their second victory of the season after shocking champions Sundowns 2-0.

Goals from Devon Saal and Rushine de Reuck were more than enough to see the KwaZulu-Natal outfit come away with the win.

Maritzburg coach Siya Mdluli is overwhelmed with the way his charges have begun the MDC campaign.

“The boys are giving their all, they have been fantastic to watch and I’m very proud of them. Two wins in a row show there is consistency in the team and they are hungry to do well because they have seen the league is a platform to impress the first team coach,” said Mdluli.

“I want them to carry on playing like they have in the past two games because I also want to see them graduating to the first team.”

Mdluli says their game against Sundowns was tough, but he is proud of his boys after they showed good fighting spirit.

“I told them to play the way they train and they did just that. I mean Sundowns have a good team themselves, but we also have a squad full of talented players. They played the way they do at training and I’m happy.”
