SuperSport United reserves registered their first victory of this season’s MultiChoice Diski challenge after beating Cape Town City reserves 5-1 at the Tshwane University of Technology Stadium this past Saturday. Prior to the match, the young

Matsatsantsa had only taken one point, having drawn their first match with Platinum Stars 0-0, before losing 2-0 to Chippa United.

Former Amajimbos skipper Nelson Maluleke (right) and Darren Smith both scored twice in the match, while Khanyisa Mayo scored one.

Maluleke believes the victory is a sign of good things to come for the team after not having started the league on a good note.

“It was a great win and we played really well as a team. I think this win will boost our confidence going into the other games. We know that it is our first win in three games, but it is not that bad. We can turn things around, there are still many games to be played,” said Maluleke.

“I am also happy about scoring, it felt very nice. I just have to work really hard to improve my game.”

Meanwhile, Free State Stars made it two wins in a row with their 3-1 win over Baroka FC at Goble on Sunday. Sello Japhtha, who returned to Ea Lla Koto after he was released by Orlando Pirates in June scored the second of the match after Mzwakhe Laftha cancelled out Thato Chuene’s goal for Baroka in the opening 10 minutes.

Kholofelo Mogotla scored an own goal in the latter stages of the game to extend the score for the home side.

Having not risen to the occasion at Bucs after joining the club last year, Japhta says he is on a mission to revive his career at Stars and wants to get back to playing for the senior team.

“Things didn’t go as I thought they would, but I guess that is just how life can be sometimes. I am just thankful that I was given an opportunity to play for Pirates, but right now I want to make things right. I need to keep working hard so that I become a regular in the first team,” said the midfielder.
