- Kgosi Modisane

Bruce best accompaniment to Claudia.

Withstanding the heat from the kitchen together, Midrand-based couple Bruce and Claudia Sebregts are a strong pair with a deep understanding of each other due to their long relationship.

Claudia is a perfectionist who may spend too much time on details while Bruce just wants things done right but, more importantly, on schedule.

Bruce the cook and Claudia the baker would like to open a café one day that serves a fusion of the foods they grew up with and now serve their friends and family.

They are among the first coupled group contestants on M-Net’s channel 101 cooking reality show, My Kitchen Rules, which airs on Sundays, showcasing the cuisine of paired contestants from around the country.

For the next five weeks, the first five pairs of contestants have to create an instant restaurant in their own homes, where their food is scored by their rival contestants and celebrity chefs David Higgs and J’ Something.

The couple have also opened up their kitchens and their hearts to share their secret recipe to a healthy and wholesome partnership. Here is how they do it:

Bruce, 43:

1. Who taught you how to cook? My mother had a large influence on my passion for cooking and her Asian roots have also played a big part in our style as a team. 2. What style of food will you be cooking in MKR? Asian-influenced food along with lots of spices and chillies. 3. How competitive are you? I am extremely competitive. Given that I am a multiple world champion in martial arts, being competitive is definitely in my nature. 4. What are your partner’s most annoying habits? Claudia is terrible with not setting timers, leaving things to burn! 5. What is your dynamic like in the kitchen? Our dynamic is awesome; we have such a great synergy! Claudia always has my back, no matter what.

Claudia, 33:

1. How did you decide to enter MKR? My whole family loves to watch the Australian version of My Kitchen Rules and we always have very strong opinions and large debates around the show, so when we saw that South Africa was planning their own version we were so excited! 2. For how long have you and your partner known each other? Bruce and I have known each other for 16 years. I saw him at a kung fu function and fell instantly in love with him. Now we are married with two beautiful boys.

We are an example of how opposites attract and could not be more different if we tried. This works in our favour as his strengths complement my weak- nesses and vice versa. 3. Who taught you how to cook? My gran inspired a love of baking, however I have learnt a lot on my own, and am addicted to trying out new recipes all the time. 4. What ingredients do you use a lot of? I love cream, butter, sugar and of course chocolate! I am more partial to the more decadent flavours and I tend to sway more to the sweet side of things. 5. How opinionated are you? I am most definitely opinionated! I like things a certain way.
