Motale praises Bucs

-

Orlando Pirates legend Edward Motale says he is happy to see Pirates regaining their form and going back to what he called the glory days of the Ghost. Pirates have had a fair start to the Absa Premiership season, having won three, drawn as many and only lost one match. PSL has to act on corruption

Age cheating is rife in local football and unless the PSL does a proper screening of all players registered by clubs this trend will continue. This is the view of a former player management agency employee who spoke to Phakaaathi on condition of anonymity. “I worked for an agency and it was like a normal thing to change players’ ages. We could not get it done on time so we ended up taking his younger cousin’s ID and registered him using it,” said the source. The issue of age cheating has been making headlines recently after allegations emerged that Chiefs’ 17-year-old Wiseman Meyiwa (above) is older than he claims to be. Tug-of-war over Mashaba

A source at Cape Town City has revealed the club is in a race to sign former Mamelodi Sundowns leftback Mzikayise Mashaba (above). The defender was earlier released from his contract, making him eligible to join any club. Chiefs are said to be looking to sign the defender as well and have already held talks with Mashaba’s representatives. “It’s going to be difficult for him because Cape Town City want him. But again, Chiefs have made a counter-offer. The boy wants to play because the last couple of months have been hectic for him at Downs. His decision will be based on where he thinks he can play because competition is really tough at both clubs,” said the source.

Former Chippa United coach Dan Malesela (above) says he is not in a rush to return to the dug-out as he is enjoying his time away from the game. Malesela was sacked almost a month ago, with his righthand man Teboho Moloi taking over on an interim basis. “I am still enjoying some time off,” he told Phakaaathi. “I am relaxed, I haven’t been sending out my CV. But we will see if anything comes up in the next couple of weeks,” he added.

Gordon Igesund (above) has joined ABC Motsepe League team Santos where he is part of a four-year plan to get the former Absa Premiership champions back to the top flight. Phakaaathi has learnt that Igesund was brought in to help revive the club. “Igesund is a revered coach who has been very successful and was in charge of Santos when they won the league title. He is a well-respected figure and his experience will surely help them get back to their former glory,” said a source. Igesund was recently tipped to take over from Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt who was rumoured to be facing a player revolt but the move fell through.
