FINAL: SUPERSPORT UNITED UP AGAINST CAPE TOWN CITY

- Tshepo Ntsoelengoe

Match-winners aplenty as season’s first silverware goes up for grabs.

Ahead of this weekend’s mouth-watering MTN8 final between Cape Town City and SuperSport United at Moses Mabhida Stadium, Phakaaathi takes a look at two potential match-winners from each team.

Cape Town City Lyle Lakay

It has been a great start for the former Bloemfontein Celtic player in Cape Town. Lakay has made six appearances for coach Benni McCarthy’s charges so far this season. The midfielder has contributed a lot in the team’s good run this campaign, making four assists. The 26-year old is, however, yet to register a goal for City. His pace and skill is what makes him dangerous for opposition defenders and he is always looking to get inside the box whenever he has the ball at his feet. Lakay is certainly one of the players that can win the game for City by creating and scoring goals. Ayanda Patosi

Patosi has taken the Absa Premiership by storm making his presence felt in his first season in South African top-flight football. The former Lokeren FC midfielder has a very good eye for goal and he takes world-class freekicks. He has already scored two goals for the Cape side in his five appearances at the club. He is slowly filling the void left by former skipper Lebogang Manyama, who joined Turkish club Konyaspor FC. Patosi has made interesting patnershipss in the City attack, combining with the likes of Teko Modise and Lehlohonolo Majoro. The attacking midfielder has played a crucial role in City’s road to the final of the MTN8.

SuperSport United Jeremy Brockie (inset)

The New Zealander is without doubt the player everyone looks to when Matsatsantsa are in need of goals. Brockie has already scored six goals for the Pretoria outfit in all competitions thus far this season. Brockie stands out when it comes to important games for the club. He has a great partnership with Bradley Grobler up-front. City’s defence will have to keep a very close eye on Brockie, who is capable of scoring from any angle in the field. Another key element that makes Brockie a very dangerous player is his ability to hold the ball and letting his team-mates feed the ball off him when launching attacks.

Thuso Phala

Despite the negative publicity he gets, Phala manages to prove his worth in the blue colours of SuperSport. He always ensures that he gives his all to help the club win games and he is a hard-worker, running up and down on the right wing. He has strong pace which helps him beat his marker with ease and delivers well-timed crosses for his team-mates inside the box. Just a couple of weeks ago he scored two goals for the club during the quarterfinal of the Caf Confederation Cup against Zesco United.
