Motorsport Festival moves to Midvaal

The Midvaal Raceway near Meyerton will host round 12 of this year’s Extreme Festival series on Saturday, with four regional championsh­ip categories in action. The day’s top crowd drawcard should be two races for the Volkswagen Challenge brigade, which has attracted 27 entries.

Pre-event favourites for overall victories will include veteran racer Iain Pepper (Husqvarna Polo), Waldie Meintjies (Lee Thompson Polo), Wayne Crous (Delway Polo), Rory Atkinson (Pozidrive Polo), Devon Piazza-Musso (Reef Supplies Polo) and Delon Thompson (A&L Materials Polo).

Class B will feature top runners like Deon Holliday (Centworx Polo), Luan Roos (Nathans Polo), Lyle Ramsay (Monroe Polo), Reno van Heerden (KWC Rocket Polo), Quinton Needham (Megatron Polo) and Nic Clarke (Pozidrive Polo).

The top runners in Class C must include Rory Atkinson (Pozidrive Polo), Shaun Crous (Ancro Building Polo), Marthinus Jordaan (Burris Polo), Alistair Johnston (LAC Corp Polo) and Chris Dale (Pozidrive Polo).

Some of the day’s closest action should be provided by the autObarn SuperHatch category, with 20 drivers to face the starter.

Judging by recent events, the quickest contenders should include Jonathan du Toit (TAR Honda Civic), Brett Garland (autObarn Honda Civic), Tyler Scott (Jestik Opel), Reno van Heerden (Hotwheels Polo), Melanie Spurr (Rowlin Polo), Louis Scholtz (Car Care Honda) and Chris Davison (Opel Superboss).

Andre’ Dannhauser (Pro Auto Opel Corsa), Nic Martin (Rex Diff Opel Kadett), Sandro Godinho (Newline Golf), Robert Stoltz (Jestik Opel Kadett) Ishmail Baloyi (TAR Honda Civic) and Trevor Stringer (Citrine Designs Peugeot) should be the men to beat in Class B.

Finally, Barry Viljoen (BB Diagnostic­s Opel Kadett), Craig Priestley (Tactical Fluid Ford Fiesta), Shaun Besteman (RDG Golf), Alax Marques (ACE Auto Polo) and Anthony Hyams (Building Code Ford Fiesta) will fight for honours in Class C.

Old-timer George Bezuidenho­ut (Accolade Nissan Primera), Rory Eland (Dialogic Polo), Louis Cloete (AMS Tuning VW Beetle), Johan

Hattingh (Martin Morgan Nissan), Ray Obery (GWM Alfa GTV6) and Nathan de Villiers (VW Polo) should be front-runners in the races for 111 Sports and Saloon Cars.

Fighting for Class B victories should be Phillip Emmenis (BMW), Justin Gordon (3D Nutrition Honda Ballade) and Veritie-Anne Joubert (Honda Spares Ballade).

The day’s closest races should be those for Hankook Formula Vee drivers, who generally charge around Midvaal in a single, tight slip-streaming group.
