Uthongathi eager for another victory

One win, three draws and two defeats do not sit well with National First Division (NFD) new boys Uthongathi’s Wiseman Zondi and he feels the team could have done better in their first six matches of their first season in the professional ranks.

Uthongathi were promoted from the ABC Motsepe League together with Free State’s Super Eagles in May and have compiled just six points and are third from the bottom in the standings.

“Our preparations for the season went well and we knew what to expect. We had planned that we needed a good start so we don’t find ourselves under pressure as the season progresses.

“Although things have not gone too badly, we are not happy with how things stand at the moment,” said Zondi.

The leftback said luck had not been on their side in some of the games they drew because they could easily have won.

“We just have not been lucky to win games as we have scored a few draws here and there when we should have won. We are a willing and fighting team. We give it our all in every game.

“Like in our last match against Jomo Cosmos, I felt we could have collected the full points. We did well but some decisions we made in the game let us down. But a draw away is a good result although I strongly feel we should have bagged the full points,” said the 21-year-old.

The Cane Cutters, as Uthongathi are known, host Witbank Spurs this afternoon and Zondi feels they should use this game to go on a winning run.

“We are looking to bounce back and get our second victory. We are learning all the time and we want to use this game to turn the corner. We have had two full weeks to prepare for this game,” said Zondi.
