Emaraaty to deliver in Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes

-

Emaraaty can claim the scalps of some high-profile rivals by completing a swift graduation to Group 1 level in the Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket today.

John Gosden's charge is not the most obvious winner on the ratings, but it was hard not to be impressed with his recent effortless victory at Newbury. His initial run was a bit disappointing as he could finish only fourth at Sandown at the beginning of September.

However, the outing had clearly put his head straight and he was all business in Berkshire. Emaraaty travelled all over his rivals that day and barely had to move out of a canter to win by 2.25 lengths, and Gosden must

clearly think plenty of him to be ratcheting up in class so quickly. He is a son of Dubawi out of the top-class Zee Zee Top and cost 2.6 million guineas (R50.7 million) as a yearling, so really this kind of level was always going to be the dream and he can rise to the challenge, with connections making the right sort of noises.

The Betfred Cesarewitch is the major betting heat of the day and looks as tricky a puzzle as ever. That said, Endless Acres has been kept back with this race in mind and it could be dangerous to ignore Charlie Fellowes' contender.

He will be having just his fifth start of the year and his first since chasing home the unstoppable Thomas Hobson in the Ascot Stakes at the Royal meeting back in June. The winner only narrowly failed to double up in the Queen Alexandra Stakes and finished second in the Doncaster Cup, so the value of that sixlength defeat is there for all to see.

Endless Acres was put up 1kg for that effort and Fellowes' decision to keep his powder dry can pay spectacular dividends with the slight drop back to 3600m a likely plus, as is a recent racecourse gallop to help put him spot-on.

Forest Ranger hit the crossbar at York's Ebor meeting but can make hay in the closing Darley Club Stakes. He has performed with credit since landing a nice pay day at Newcastle back in the spring and the conditions of this race put him in the driving seat.

Shabaaby should take a good deal of beating in the coral.co.uk Rockingham Stakes at York. The Owen Burrows-trained youngster shaped with promise in a maiden won by Nyaleti and has looked the part in winning his two subsequent outings.

It is also worth following Stake Acclaim in the Coral Sprint Trophy. Dean Ivory's inmate excelled at Haydock last time when he finished second in the 32Red Gold Cup. This race looks comfortably within radar.

Whatduhavtoget can take the first big prize of the jumps season proper in the totepool Silver Trophy Handicap Hurdle at Chepstow.Dan Skelton's runner can seemingly perform on a range of ground and could be well treated as he embarks upon his first full season over hurdles.
