Atlas race hots up in Glenharvie

CHAMPIONSH­IP: FINAL OF AUTO AND MOTO SECTION

The main event on October 28 will be run over two laps of 160km.

Next weekend’s Atlas Copco Gold 400 event at Glenharvie on the West Rand will feature a festival of national and regional cross country motor racing.

The event will see the final rounds of both the Auto and Moto championsh­ips in the South African Cross Country Series, and the final round of the Northern Regions championsh­ip.

Race headquarte­rs, the start/ finish and designated service park will all be situated at the Kloof Country Club in Glenharvie, with the car and motorcycle competitor­s utilising separate routes on both the Friday and Saturday.

The Motorcycle time trial will be run over a 50-km route on Friday, October 27 with the main event to be run over three laps of 100 kilometres the next day.

The qualifying race for national car competitor­s will be run over a 40-km route on Friday, October 27.

The main event on October 28 will be run over two laps of 160km.

There will be a compulsory service halt and regroup after the first loop.

At least 30% of this year’s route has not been used before.

The Northern Regions competitor­s will complete one lap of 210km on Saturday, October 28 and will be flagged away after the national competitor­s.

There will be free public entry to race headquarte­rs and spectator points along the route with the local Glenharvie Combinatio­n school providing a variety of refreshmen­ts throughout the weekend.

Glenharvie is within easy reach of Johannesbu­rg and surroundin­g areas and is easily accessible to centres on the West Rand. – Off Road Racing Correspond­ent
