City, Arsenal unconvinci­ng in victory

– Manchester City last night took the long route to a place in the Carabao Cup quarterfin­als, finally managing to get the better of an incredibly hard-working Wolves side in a penalty shootout.

The Championsh­ip leaders fought brilliantl­y throughout and went incredibly close to getting the better of their world-class opponents, but in the end they weren’t able to get the better of City keeper Claudio Bravo, who was in excellent form during the penalty shootout.

After a goalless 120 minutes,

Manchester

City were successful with their first four penalties, earning a 4-1 victory.

Wolves had a wonderful opportunit­y to snatch a victory at the end of extra time when Connor Ronan found acres of space on the right wing and latched onto a lovely cross-field pass.

Oleksandr Zinchenko saved City an embarrassi­ng exit from the series with a perfectly timed tackle.

Arsenal secured a very unconving 2-1 win over Norwich.

The Gunners were trailing by a goal with five minutes of ordinary time to play when Nketiah scored the equaliser. He went on to score the winner in extra time.

Bournemout­h beat Middlesbro­ugh 3-1 while Bristol City put 4 past Crystal Palace, who did manage a solitary goal.

Leicester beat Leeds 3-1 thanks to goals by Iheanacho, Slimani and Mahrez.

Jesse Lingard scored a brace for Man United against Swansea.

The last two teams to qualify for the quarterfin­als will be determined tonight when Chelsea take on Everton and Spurs host West Ham. –
