Ex-cop blames ‘bee sting’ for no-show

-

A disgraced former member of the Port Elizabeth gang task team, who kept quiet on the whereabouts of a notorious gangster – who was also her then secret lover – was back in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court yesterday – this time on crutches claiming that she had fallen and injured herself.

Detective Constable Alicia Beeming was issued with a warrant of arrest after failing to arrive for presentencing proceedings on Tuesday. Her release on warning was cancelled and Beeming had to pay bail of R500.

Beeming was convicted on a charge of defeating the ends of justice after pleading guilty to the charge earlier in August.

State prosecutor Jason Thysse told the court Beeming did not explain why she did not keep to her appointments with her probation officer.

In September, she told the probation officer she could not make it due to family commitments and in October she skipped another appointment, claiming she had been bitten by a spider and hospitalised. She stopped taking calls from the probation officer.

Magistrate Onke Myataza said the claim that she had fallen and had to go to the doctor was the complete opposite of what her attorney had told the court on Tuesday – that she was stung by a bee.

Myataza ordered that Beeming meet her probation officer with immediate effect.

“If you breach any of these bail conditions I will authorise a warrant and you will have to wait in custody,” said Myataza.

Beeming landed in hot water for keeping quiet about her personal relationship with a high-ranking gang member, Hans Jordaan.

She had information about his the whereabouts, but kept silent about it while her unit was searching for him in connection with an attempted murder charge related to a gang shooting in 2014.

The case was postponed until December 14 . – ANA
