REGIONS: FOUR NEW LEADERS NAMED ‘TO WIN’

Come 2021, all municipalities in the province will be DA-led, says Moodey.

The Democratic Alliance is lining up its army of activists to take over power in Gauteng and win the 2019 national election. The Gauteng DA has announced new regional leaderships in four of its five regions and given them tasks to go to the grassroots and organise people to swell the ranks of the party.

DA provincial leader John Moodey introduced the newly elected chairpersons: Selby Thekiso for Ekurhuleni Metro; Gauteng MPL Heinrich Volmink for Johannesburg; Able Tau for Tshwane and mayor of Midvaal; and Bongani Baloyi as Vaal regional chairperson.

Moodey said the regional chair for the West Rand would be elected after the party’s provincial conference on November 18.

Each of the new leaders came through the ranks of the party and shares its vision for a better Gauteng. Their mandate is to strengthen branches and take community issues to municipal and provincial levels.

Volmink said he wanted the party’s successes in Gauteng to translate into a DA victory at the 2019 national elections. He also wanted the country to get back on the path to free and fair opportunities for all.

Baloyi said it was possible for the DA to take over the Emfuleni government from the ANC.

Thekiso undertook to ensure that all DA structures were functional in Ekurhuleni to grab the metro from the ANC-led coalition. “We are going to ensure that we win Ekurhuleni,” he said.

Tau, from Tshwane, said they would fortify the DA membership in the region and strengthen the traditional voter base.

“We are for a clean government. This is a new era of hard-working servants of the people,” Tau said.

Moodey said they were preparing to win not only Gauteng and all its metros, but the national election and become the ruling party in the country.

“We are looking at winning the election by building the party as we march to the Union Buildings. Come 2021, all municipalities in Gauteng will be DA-led,” Moodey said.

Moodey said the party expected a robust, healthy and democratic provincial congress.

He said the positions to be contested at the congress were those of the provincial leader, chairperson and deputy chairperson.
