Iknow it sounds pretty crazy to think you need any advice on something humans have been doing for approximat­ely six million years. Humans have evolved and so have their tasks and duties and if you are a modern human sitting behind a desk for most of the day and you want to learn to run, then listen up, otherwise you will have a one-way ticket to the physiother­apist.

For the modern and rather unfit human who is willing to get moving and start running, you need to understand how you have conditione­d your body over the years through your routine and unhealthy behaviour. flexor muscles actually become really tight and shorten in length and elasticity. The hip flexors’ responsibi­lity is to help in picking up the leg when running. By having tight high flexors your pelvis and posture begins to shift to accommodat­e the shorter range of motion and this throws your biomechani­cs out of the window. to train, since you might be unaware of its primary function. By being weak, it allows your ITB greater pull and thus the alignment will be out of tune. The friction will cause inflammati­on and you will end up with knee pain. The longer you run, the more inflamed it will get. Speak to your local biokinetic­ist after your assessment to give you exercises to strengthen that area.
