The Big Top Arena at Carnival City will again be a cauldron of excitement as Africa’s best takes on the rest of the world in the Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) tonight.
The highlight on the stacked fightcard at EFC65 will no doubt be the light-heavyweight title bout between the champion from the DRC, Dalcha Lungiambula, and England’s Stuart Austin.
Champion Dalcha has been unstoppable since claiming the title, destroying all that came before him, but Austin jumped at the chance of a title shot, saying he is not overly impressed by the man holding the belt.
At yesterday’s weigh-in Austin continued in the same vein, grabbing the mic from commentator Cyrus Fees to respond directly to the taunting fans, reminding all that he ended his previous fight against African boxing champion Elvis Moyo untouched.
“I’m finishing this fight, no problem,” an irritated Austin said to Fees and to the crowd. “Either I finish him, or he quits.”
“I am fighting for my Africa. I will do my talking in the cage,” responded the Champion, to roars from the crowd.
One of SA’s highly rated MMA fighters, Boyd Allen, makes his long-awaited return to the hexagon when he takes on Scotland’s Calum Murrie in a battle that could see the winner challenging for the featherweight title.
Allen’s only loss in the organisation came to Murrie’s training partner Danny Henry, so there will be some sort of a score to settle when these two lock horns.
Another very interesting match-up will see two undefeated lightweights squaring off in another possible No 1 contender’s spot.
Capetonian Deon Brunning makes his first appearance on the main card when he takes on newcomer Gavin Hughes of England.
In the flyweight division, Bokang Masunyane looks to claim his fourth straight win, this time against the dangerous Brazilian Magno Alves.
And opening the main card with a heavyweight bang, Moyo clashes with Cameroon’s Nico Yamdjie.
