Jomo Cosmos midfielder Mxolisi Macuphu has revealed the secret to Ezenkosi’s good start to their National First Division (NFD) campaign this season.

The 28-year-old former Golden Arrows player said when the senior guys in the team saw that age was catching up with them, they vowed to make sure the club got back into the Absa Premiership.

“I think the lads are much hungrier. Age is catching up with some of the guys so they want it more than they did last season,” said Macuphu.

Macuphu and Sicelo Mkhize were on the scoresheet last weekend when Cosmos beat Super Eagles 2-0 away and will be hoping for at least a similar result against Black Leopards at Vosloorus Stadium tomorrow afternoon.

“After nine matches the team have played well. We lacked a cutting edge in some of our previous games, drawing or losing matches we should have won, so we have to be more clinical this time.

“But we are still on course, two points adrift from the number one spot. One game at a time… that’s what we always tell the lads as we focus on our next task, which is Leopards,” he said.

Elsewhere, Witbank Spurs will be buoyed by their inspired 2-0 win over Mbombela United in the Mpumalanga derby last weekend when they host Royal Eagles. Siyavutha will be firing on all cylinders but Eagles have proven to be a tricky side besides their stuttering start to the season. A win for Spurs will see them join the leaders at the top.
