Class A champion crowned at Delmas

Races in seven separate categories at Red Star Raceway on Saturday.

The 2017 Inland Championsh­ip will conclude at the Red Star Raceway near Delmas this Saturday, with the Viking Mining Solutions Race Day to feature seven separate racing categories.

Topping the crowd drawcard list should be two races for the Bridgeston­e BMW Club Racing contingent, with the year’s overall and Class A title fights still to be concluded.

The Class A championsh­ip contenders are Lorenzo Gualtieri (BMW E36 328i Turbo) and Julian Fameliaris (BMW E36 328i Turbo), with just one point between them.

Able to interfere should be Dino Fameliaris (BMW E36 M3 Turbo), Morne Visagie (BMW M3 Turbo) and Jason Page (BMW E36 328i Turbo).

Fighting for the overall title in Classes B and D respective­ly will be Riaan Woest (BMW E46 M3 GTR) and Jan Eversteyn (BMW E36 328i).

The INEX Legends category will see four drivers fighting for the season’s overall title.

They are Willie Erasmus, Anro Stadler, Richard Upton and Altan Bouw.

Others to watch should include brothers Shjael and Shaun Nel, Charl Roux, Johann van de Venter and Richard van Heerde.

The Midvaal Historic contingent should again produce a large field, with front runners expected to be Jannie van Rooyen (VW Scirocco), Andre de Lange (Jetta), Brendan Parker (Datsun GX Coupe) and Seef Fourie Snr (Datsun 160Y).

Waging war in the midfield should be people like Wentzel Nortman (Toyota Celica) Johan Coetzer Snr (Datsun 1200 GX), Frank Davis (Ford Escort Mk1), Ken Price (Datsun GX Coupe) and Gavin Lundin (Datsun 1200).

Fighting for the overall Formula Monoposto title will be Shaun Harrington (VW Ray), Mac Odendaal (DAW GTI) and Carel van Heerden (VWSwift).

Able to beat them all on the track will be Formula M ace and youngster Charles Williamson (Formula M GSXR).

The Yokohama Modified Production Car category should see George Economides (VW Golf Turbo), Keagan Pottas (Honda CRX Turbo), Nathan de Villiers (VW Golf GTi Turbo), Brian Peck (VW Polo), Franco Di Matteo (Mazda), Dirk Lawrence (Honda Ballade) and Jeff Langeveldt (Honda CRX) fighting for podium places.

Sharing the track with them will be the Silvercup Series cars, with Jacques Meiring (Mitsubishi Lancer), Evert Seyffert Snr (BMW 325ci), Evert Seyffert Jnr (Chevrolet Firenza) and Brent Henshaw (Toyota Celica) at the front end.

The Big Boss Auto Super Saloons will see entries from the likes of Marius Jacobs (Opel Tigra), Richard Cooley (Mazda RX8), Eugene Gouws (Chev Firenza Can-Am) and Karel Stols (Mazda RX7). – Inland Racing Correspond­ent
