SA’s most stylish come out
STYLE AWARDS 2017: STILL NO RECOGNITION TO THE STYLISTS AND TEAMS
A star-studded soirée in the Diamond Walk – the jewel in Sandton City’s glittering crown.
Deemed the most irrelevant awards in the country by Twitter, the SA Style Awards took place last Sunday at Sandton City’s, Diamond Walk section, where only those who were privileged enough to land an invitation found themselves mingling with Joburg's finest. This year the theme meant for a rather playful nature as stars came out in their best interpretations of the Met Gala.
An unparalleled celebration of excellence, from Most Innovative Style to Most Stylish Business Person, from Most Stylish Media Personality to Most Stylish Model; from the Most Stylish Performing Artist in Film or TV to the Most Styish Performing Artist in Music, from the Most Stylish Designer – Interior or Fashion – to the Most Stylish Couple; from The Next Big Thing to the Most Stylish SA Icon, South Africa’s most stylish individuals made their way down a red carpet of Alfa Romeo automobiles.
Showcasing 21 years of South African style, attendees adhered to the theme with bold and beautiful creations from a number of local designers. Vanessa Carreira-Coutroulis was a vision in a red gown by Gert-Johan Coetzee, whilst South African Style Award winner 2017, Luthando “LootLove” Shosha was ethereal in a white Rubicon creation. South African Style Awards Judge Basetsana Kumalo sparkled in a blue gown by Gavin Rajah, and E! Entertainment’s Kat Sinavasan took to the red carpet in one of David Tlale’s bold “vulgar collection” blazers. Zuraida Jardine was fierce in a sheer sequinned jumpsuit by Anel Botha and South African Style Awards judge Jena Dover turned heads with a dramatic outfit change.
South African Style Award winner 2017 Ayanda Thabethe was beautiful in a blush gown by Gert-Johan Coetzee; and the Most Stylish Couple for 2017, Dineo Moeketsi and Solo, were perfectly paired in black and gold ensembles by Quiteria and George. As the night came to an sombre end, it was rather distasteful to witness how even after 21 years of the awards, there was still no recognition being given to those who work behind the scenes, ensuring that the stars keep shining.
The awards should take note of those stylists and wardrobe artist who ensure that the magazine covers are on trend and fashion forward. If anything, a category for best styled magazine cover should be considered.
