‘We’re rich – let us pay more taxes’

-

– More than 400 US millionaires and billionaires, including George Soros, one of the world’s most successful investors, signed a letter to the US Congress urging it not to cut their taxes.

“Dear Member of Congress: We are high net worth individuals, many in the top 1%, who care deeply about our nation and its people, and we write with a simple request: Do not cut our taxes,” the letter issued on Sunday by the Responsible Wealth group said.

Signatories of the letter oppose the idea of introducing the legislation that may sharpen the inequality.

“As you consider changes to the tax code, we urge you to oppose any legislation that further exacerbates inequality. Tax reform should be, at a minimum, revenue neutral – without using gimmicks like dynamic scoring. We are deeply concerned that revenue loss would lead to deep cuts in critical services such as education, and would hamper our nation’s ability to restore investments in our people and communities,” the letter said.

Authors of the letter even called on the Congress to raise the taxes for wealthy people to boost the country’s budget.

The US House of Representatives and the Senate unveiled two draft Bills on reforming taxes. Both documents envisage softening the tax burden for millionaires and billionaires. – Sputnik
