The MultiChoice Diski challenge festival at King Zwelithini Stadium this weekend included six derbies and produced a whopping 27 goals, with the biggest winners being Golden Arrows following their 5-0 hammering of AmaZulu FC.

Arrows, who were the 2015/2016 Diski champions, moved to second place, level on 16 points with Bloemfontein Celtic after seven games.

In other derby fixtures, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs drew 1-1, Celtic beat Free State Stars 3-1, Polokwane City won 2-1 against Baroka FC, Ajax Cape Town got the Cape bragging rights after a 1-0 victory over Cape Town City, while SuperSport United added more salt to the wounds of struggling defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns after smashing the young Brazil- ians 3-0.

The win saw Matsatsantsa move up to fourth on the standings with 14 points, just two points behind Arrows and Celtic after the same number of games, while Downs remain rooted at the foot of the table.

United coach Kwanele Kopo (above) attributed the win to focusing more on his team rather than their opponents and added that his young team played more like their senior team on the day.

“Our movement was very good and for the first time today (Saturday) we looked like our PSL team, which is a very good omen. We can only hope the players can keep it up. We could have scored more goals, but overall I am happy with the result, commitment, effort and we worked harder than Sundowns,” said Kopo.

“Sometimes we analyse too much in talking about opponents, and for a change this time we focused on ourselves. We didn’t talk about Downs that much, we focused on how we wanted to play and move.

“We spoke a bit about what Keletso Makgalwa can do, we knew he would want to run with the ball, we brought him inside into the crowded areas. We knew Mogakolodi Ngele would not run behind us and would look for a ball in front of us so he could shoot.”
