Drugs and alcohol abuse are a road to nowhere

-

The results thereof are always there to be seen. Lives are destroyed, writes Godfrey Malibe.

Many young South Africans are exposed to drugs and it’s destroying their lives. Consumption of drugs and abuse of alcohol have ruined promising futures and will continue to do so if young people don’t make the right decisions.

Throughout my life, I have seen people fall from glory because of drugs. And you have surely seen someone who looks like a zombie because of drugs. I have seen happy families go through destruction and divorce because of drugs and alcohol. That taught me that drugs and alcohol will never take you anywhere in life.

It is unfortunate that our youngsters see them as cool. Look around these holidays and you’ll be surprised to learn that even kids of 12 drink as if they were hopeless adults.

The results thereof are always there to be seen. Lives are destroyed. If you look around in your community you’ll see someone you know would have gone far in life if they had stayed away from the bottle.

Even some of our celebrities lost their lavish lifestyles. Some try to motivate young people not to booze, but not everyone listens.

I congratulate people who saw the need to turn their lives around and stop doing drugs and abusing liquor. Look at Luvo Manyonga, Jabu Pule and Tshepo Tshola. Their lives changed for the better.

Young people, take a leaf out of these guys’ book. It may feel cool now, but the end results are deadly.
