WATER TECHNOLOGY: A MOBILE SHOWROOM SHOWS YOU EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

- Adriaan Roets

Taps and shower heads are smarter than ever.

While it’s easy to go to a hardware store, the focus is often not galvanised on your particular needs. Just because you’re buying taps doesn’t mean staff knows the ins and outs of each product on the floor.

Grohe Dawn Water Technology (GDWT) launched their answer to this problem last week with a mobile showroom that is all about engagement.

GDWT, soon to be known as LIXIL Africa, introduced their Pro Tour Truck tour to give ease of access – but what it’s also doing is giving a platform to explore water technology.

The aim is to deliver all the latest GDWT news, products, expertise and services to pinpointed audiences around Africa.

“We have been following the Grohe Pro Tour Truck tours very closely around the globe and it is truly a model that works from a trial and educational point of view. Nothing beats a hands-on experience and the Pro Tour Truck brings the product experience directly to you, complete with product experts on hand. As the leading tap manufacturer in Africa, we are pleased to set the pace for future interactions from installers and retailers to end consumers,” says Henk Suelmann, CEO of GDWT.

The launch took place at the Cobra factory in Krugersdorp with a first-hand experience on how taps are created and cast. From melted metal to the gleaming metallic of the final products, it served to appreciate these important home features even more.

GDWT uses the words “water technology” a lot to explain their taps and showerheads – an apt word.

Cobra’s product portfolio, for instance, includes a comprehensive range of technical products like flush valves, pressure control valves, demand and metering taps and compression and capillary fittings. These are designed to be ergonomic and water-saving – so considering the drought plaguing SA, it’s great to see a proudly South African brand working on issues faced at home.

The trucks first stop are Johannesburg before heading to the Free State.

Visitors can expect to experience taps from Grohe, Cobra, Isca, Vaal and Libra.

Here’s some expert advice from Andrew Camphausen, the technical manager for projects at Grohe Dawn on water technology:

How long should a good tap last?

At least 10 years – demographics in SA indicate that affluent home owners change their bathrooms every seven years.

What should you consider before deciding on different taps?

Consider the style and design to match the other aesthetic elements in your home, bathroom, and kitchen. If you have chosen a square basin/bath, be sure to match it with square taps. Functionality is another important feature you want to maximise the experience in your home. Some of the technologies include:

SilkMove, which ensures the smoothest handling for effortless precision and ultimate comfort.

CoolTouch, which guarantees against scalding on hot surfaces.

EcoJoy, which enables you to reduce water consumption by up to 50%.

Which of your showerheads seem to be the most popular?

South Africans are loving our Euphoria showers for the ergonomic designs that flow seamlessly into the spray face. For an unparalleled showering experience, Grohe DreamSpray distributes the water evenly to every nozzle, while SprayDimmer reduces water consumption by up to 40% with our SmartRain Spray.

Another popular shower is the New Tempesta with three design styles and up to four spray patterns. Hand and head showers come in a choice of Contemporary, Cosmopolitan or Authentic designs and up to four distinct sprays will enable you to find your perfect spray pattern combination. For instant refreshment first thing in the morning or a gentle relaxation at the end of the day, Grohe DreamSpray technology ensures minimum consumption and maximum enjoyment.
