Setting the record straight

Many queries were fielded on Saturday regarding TAB payouts on the Kenilworth race meeting.

The dividends were only official and made ‘all clear’ around 7pm.

The delay was caused by the postponement of the Gauteng SANSUI Summer Cup meeting at Turffontein as the Tote needed to be reconfigured because of the move to Sunday.

The Gauteng Summer Cup was a related race on the Kenilworth card.

On that basis and combined with the decision to postpone the meeting after Kenilworth Race 1 had been completed, TAB Boss Vee Moodley had three options.

“The first was to refund all Turffontein bets and reopen the pools, which would have been against Tote rules.

“Secondly we only ‘result’ Kenilworth exotic pools on Sunday after the Summer Cup had finished thereby tying up customer’s money.

“The final option was to manually unrelate the Summer Cup from the Kenilworth program in order to declare field in that race and ensure customers be paid out their winnings on Saturday.

“I chose the last option as this at least allowed customers access to winnings.

“And that decision proved the correct one as we saw with the excellent pools achieved on Sunday at Turffontein,” said Moodley.

“You can’t hold on to people’s money like that but our IT engineers had to get the software provider to assist and it was not until 7pm that things were finalised.”

Going forward related races will be handled differently in such that events that transpired over the weekend and issues of this nature will be avoided.

TAB wishes to thank all customers for their patience during this process and ensure them that everything was done with the best interest of the punter at heart!
