Modest Tau in no hurry to see the goals flowing

- Michaelson Gumede

He may be vocal on the field whenever he misses a chance in front of goal or when a linesman flags him offside, but Percy Tau possesses one of the most modest personalities off the field.

The 23-year-old picked up the Man-of-the-Match award after scoring twice in Mamelodi Sundowns’ 4-0 hammering of Baroka FC on Tuesday – a result that saw

Masandawana shoot straight to the top of the Absa Premiership table.

“This keeps the mood, we didn’t concede, we did a lot of things that the coach wanted us to do and he was happy. I don’t think he expects four goals again, he just expects us to do what he wants,” he said.

Tau now has four goals in the league, just three shy from his total tally of the previous campaign. However, he maintains that he never imagines himself chasing the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot award, insisting that goals don’t necessarily top his list of priorities in his game.

“Sometimes it will come into my mind that I need to score in this match but then it doesn’t happen and I’m like, okay it will happen in the next game and I just keep on saying next game until I eventually score,” he said.

“I always feel comfortable whenever I contribute to the team, I don’t know how many goals I will score and how many good games I will have but I always feel strong whenever I contribute to the team,” added Tau.

The high-flying Brazilians’ next stop is at the Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu on Sunday afternoon, where they will face relatively tricky opponents in fifth-placed Golden Arrows.

“We know they are a good side and have given us problems in the past but we have watched our previous games with them and what they have done for us to struggle against them,” said Tau.

“We’ll put in the hard work and do our match analysis and we’ll do everything to win because we want to go to the December break in a happy mood … I just hope it is not going to be raining that side.”
