NDZ’s track record unimpressive

-

Reading an article about Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, pictured, as being “a woman of substance” from the ANC propaganda media would have been laughable if it were not so critical for the future of this country.

Looking back at her life and her tenure in different departments that culminated in her elevation to African Union (AU) chair, we see a lot of major slipups.

When she was minister of health she blew R14.27 million on the play Sarafina that was shelved after an investigation.

Then the millions blown on a quack treatment called Virodene that had no effect for the treatment of Aids.

When she was minister of home affairs, more than 36 000 ID documents were returned to rectify mistakes as her focus was already on her next post.

She finally became the chair- person of the AU. The comments that were flying around during and after her tenure there were anything but complimentary.

Chair of the Human Rights Commission Chidi Anselm Odinkalu said that NDZ “failed to do her job and there is no evidence of any work done or achievements during her tenure”.

Then professor of international relations at London University, Dr Stephen Chan, said “she was an utter disaster and she failed to reach out and address issues facing the continent such as violence and military governance”, like in Sudan and the DRC.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari was not very complimentary, either.

But most profound were the comments from the international media after her time at the AU, like Deutsche Welle’s headline “Good riddance – Africa says good bye to AU’s Dlamini-Zuma”.

What really got me worried was her closing remarks on a couple of her speeches lately that “I can do for South Africa what I did for the AU”. Ouch! Jean Michel, Bryanston
