Chiefs fans look to window with keen interest

With the team hitting some form and winning two games in a row to end the year on a high, many eyes will be on how Kaizer Chiefs conduct their business in the transfer market, which the Premier Soccer League (PSL) confirmed will open on January 2.

Amakhosi have already brought on board Leonardo Castro (right) who will join from Mamelodi Sundowns, where he didn’t get much game time.

The 27-year-old Colombian did well in his first few months at Masandawana when he built a good understanding and combination with Keagan Dolly and Khama Billiat leading to fans conferring the “CBD” moniker.

It still remains to be seen, however, if he can find the same rhythm with the likes of George Maluleka, Hendrick Ekstein and Gustavo Paez – if the latter does not head the other way as rumours have previously suggested.

Some still feel Chiefs’ problem is not only upfront where they have been failing to convert chances. According to former

Banyana Banyana striker Amanda Dlamini, the Glamour Boys need someone who will man their attack and be the playmaker the same way Reneilwe Letsholonyane was during his time at Naturena.

“I think Castro will be a good addition. But the question that begs an answer is, will he get the supply? We saw when Paez first joined that he had good off-the-ball movements but his team-mates failed to read them properly,” Dlamini was quoted as saying this week.

Chiefs were previously linked with Siphelele Ntshangase who can easily do the job Dlamini feels is vacant in the team. Maluleka has been tasked with the playmaker duties in some games but although he has shown signs of brilliance in some matches, he has not been as bossy as he should be. The same can be said of Ekstein who tends to drift in and out of games.
