1 WRITE IT DOWN

If you don’t write it down, it will not come true. The No 1 secret to getting things done is by making a list of what you want to achieve. Take a piece of paper and divide it into two columns. First column is what you would like to achieve and the second column is what actions you are going to take to start conquering your goals. I am not trying to over-complicate your goal setting here … all it is going to take is some time, a pen and paper to get you moving in the right direction. Remember, if you have not written it down, no action will happen.

2 BUILD YOUR SUCCESS FRAMEWORK

One important lesson I have learnt over the holidays, having two little rug rats, these are my darling babies, which are one and two years of age, give or take a few months, is, ROUTINE ROUTINE, ROUTINE. Success will only come if you have a daily success routine in line with achieving your goal. Let’s say you want to become a professional athlete. You can’t wait for practice which is only two hours long four days a week. The question is, what is a success road map throughout the day, nutrition, recovery, personal skills development, online learning for set pieces, mentors, sports science teams behind you etc? It is the sum of all the little things you do daily that will help you keep on track to achieving your goals. Make sure you have a daily success framework for each of your goals.

3 JOIN A GROUP

The reason why cross-fit has become so popular around the world, and it’s not that they have world-class training backed by science, it’s because of the community. The friend you make in your class or group activity helps keep you accountable. Nobody feels like waking up at 4am to get to a gym at 5am but the minute you have friends who hold you accountable, you have the inner pressure not to let them down or perhaps have the fear of them judging you for not committing fully. Either way, it gets you to the gym in the morning. Don’t train alone when starting out – join a group or class.

4 BE A STUDENT

Don’t take my word for everything. What I really want you to do is find something that gets you to your goal faster. The reason why we are great at getting results with our athletes at Advanced Sports Performance, is because we understand the clients needs and then we formulate which drills and exercises are best suited to get the desired results quicker. There are millions of exercises but the secret lies in researching, trying, failing and then implementing what works. Adopt this approach of becoming a master at researching and learning your goal. The more you know about goal, the easier it is to get to your desired

results quicker.

5 DON’T BE SCARED TO FAIL

When you have had a sudden urge to eat the whole tub of chocolate ice-cream, you feel guilty because your diet has been going so well. Don’t despair and head for another tub to console you. Try figure out when your cravings are at their highest and why. Try substituting all the sweets and ice-creams in the house with fruit and low-carb snacks like 70% dark chocolate with stevia. The secret in achieving your goal is to keep moving forward daily. Take the lessons like eating a whole tub of ice-cream and put measures in places so it won’t happen again. Don’t stop because you feel emotionally a mess for eating so many calories. It is a minor setback, learn, grow and implement new strategies to keep you moving forward.
