Foster aims to take U-20 form into the PSL

If there is one player Orlando Pirates fans will be hoping rescues the team from their poor finishing, it is Lyle Foster, who proved to be a lethal goal-poacher in the national Under-20 team last year.

The 17-year-old striker played a pivotal role in Thabo Senong’s squad that lifted the Under-20 Cosafa Cup in Zambia last year, scoring three goals. He has a proven goalscoring record in the club’s development teams.

Foster (right), however, with four appearances and one assist in Bucs colours, is looking forward to making a mark at the Soweto giants, where there is pressure to deliver. But the young striker is not concerned about the pressure that comes with leading the Bucs attack.

“I want to add value to the team. I know it won’t be easy, but I have to work hard in order for me to succeed. Playing for a big club like Pirates is not easy, but I am up for the challenge,” he said.

“We did not score a lot of goals during the first round, but the good thing is that we are playing well. Our strikers are also playing well, it is just a matter of putting the ball into the net. But I am hopeful we will get it right. I haven’t scored yet, but surely a goal will come once I get more game time. I am not feeling any pressure to deliver.”

Pirates have scored only 11 goals in their last 15 league games. And with that in mind, the teenage striker says they have been working pretty hard after the Christmas break preparing for their first league clash against Baroka FC at the Orlando Stadium tonight.

“We all know what we want, we want to improve from the way we played last year. Everyone in the team has been working very hard and we will be ready to take on Baroka.”

Meanwhile, the Limpopo outfit have started the 2017/2018 campaign on a positive note and they currently find themselves occupying fourth spot in the league table after registering 22 points in 15 games.

The Buccaneers and Bakgaga have met three times this season with all the matches ending in draws.
