Motsepe: Pitso is going nowhere

SUNDOWNS: BOSS ALLAYS FEARS OVER SWEDE’S ARRIVAL

Mosimane was even involved in hiring the technical director, Brazilians president says.

Mamelodi Sundowns president Patrice Motsepe has dismissed suggestions that the appointment of former Sweden mentor Erik Hamren as technical director means he is being prepared as Pitso Mosimane’s successor.

Motsepe has said in the past that he would like to see Mosimane stay at the club for as long as possible, even going as far as likening the former Bafana Bafana coach to former Manchester United coach Sir Alex Ferguson.

“This is a process (of appointing a technical director) we have been looking into for the last seven to 10 years. We had many names and one of the reasons we didn’t appoint any of those people is because we wanted to make sure that there was no ambition whatsoever by someone who comes in to try and become a (head) coach,” said Motsepe.

“The technical (coaching) team in its totality is home-grown ... that sends a message to young South Africans, and not just in football. They can then say ‘Pitso made it for us’, not just for Sundowns, but for South Africa.

“The thing that I like about Pitso more than anything is that he works so hard. The challenge for us is that we have to change and improve and that is why I am so excited that Erik is here. We have won the league several times in the past but we have (also) made mistakes,” he added.

Motsepe said he even involved “Jingles” in the process of appointing Hamren.

“I involve Pitso in things that have to do with money, things that coaches are never supposed to get involved in. I have deep trust in him and what excites me the most is that he comes and he makes suggestions and gives advice to me.”
