Police are my ‘everyday heroes’

-

Many people accuse the police of inefficiency and corruption but for one happy man in the Western Cape town of Ceres, they are simply “everyday heroes”.

It was a regular Sunday morning in bed for Ruan Klopper until the sounds of an intruder disrupted it.

“I [first] heard the bell, it went off five times. I think it was to make sure no one was in the house, then I heard some sounds,” recalled Klopper, who said he didn’t think much of it initially.

Suddenly, Klopper said, “a man in a red shirt” appeared in his room, grabbed his laptop and charged for the nearest exit.

“I was unable to get out of the house because all the doors were locked. I think it was a blessing in disguise because then we wouldn’t have called the police as quick as we did,” said Klopper.

Within minutes, seven police officers in three vehicles raced after the thief, who was allegedly armed with a knife, and returned to Klopper’s house with his laptop in hand.

Klopper said he was impressed by the speed at which the police were able to recover his laptop and referred to them as his “everyday heroes”.

He added: “They didn’t even come to my house, they went straight to find the guy and they came back with my laptop!” – Caxton News Service
