Poormanslady to enjoy Bourbon Bouquet at Turffontein

It might pay to take an All To Come when you play on the Turffontein Standside meeting tomorrow.

First in must be Poormanslady in Race 3 over 1400m. This Mike de Kock-trained filly has run three times to date, second time out finishing third in a Vaal Classic 1700m race, which is not looking at all shoddy. She was then a beaten favourite, 0.30 lengths behind Candy Kisses over this course and distance last time out, getting taken by surprise by the winner’s sudden determination to win when she moved up to challenge. She is drawn well again and should make a bold bid.

Her main rival is Skiminac, who has already had eight attempts in maiden company. Her maiden form is solid, with six places from eight starts, but she drops in distance from 1700m last time out and might have to settle for being a bridesmaid once again.

A couple of the runners are due to run two days prior and there are two first-timers. Watch the betting.

De Kock could oblige in Race 4 as well with Bourbon Bouquet. This filly has run twice, starting favourite in her debut but doing things the hard way by stumbling and hanging before finishing eighth behind Outlander over 1000m. That was in December 2016 and she was not seen out again until last month, so something obviously went horribly wrong with this daughter of Pathfork.

Lining up in a 1000m sprint here in her comeback, she drifted ominously in the betting but still ran on well for third, 0.80 lengths behind Tripod. She has any amount of improvement to come and providing she does not go flat in her second run after that long layoff, she should do well over this 1160m.

If she fluffs her lines, then Saragon, Good Golly and Bullsade look the right ones and, given there are so many questions regarding Bourbon Bouquet, perhaps it would be wise to put Saragon into the All To Come for a Place.

She has placed behind good horses Shufoog and Schippers in her two starts to date and will not be long in shedding her maiden tag.

Mario Lanza looks hard to beat in Race 5 over 2400m. This Roy Magner-trained gelding is overdue to open his account, having finished second in the last three of five career starts. Last time out he started favourite but found Victory Cove too good over 2850m with Voodoo a neck behind him. There is not much between Mario Lanza and Voodoo, except that the selection has run only five times in his career, while Tony Nassif’s charge will be having his 27th outing. He rates a Win tick for the All To Come.

Walter Smoothie beat his main rival Scotland over 2000m last time out and Stuart Pettigrew’s runner could dish out the same medicine in Race 6 over 2400m, while Amsterdam could be hard to beat in Race 7 over 1800m.

He beat three of his seven rivals – Dawn Assault, Hidden Agenda and Bankable Teddy – over 2000m in his penultimate start and should finish ahead of them again, even at the revised weights. Both of them could also be worth including in the multiple.
