Youngsters entered for Tommy Hotspur
The battle is on for the younger horses to qualify for the Grade 1 Computaform Sprint on Champions Day on 5 May and the first big race for prospective three-yearold stars to up their merit ratings is the Grade 3 Tommy Hotspur Handicap over 1000m at Turffontein on Saturday.
Among the entries are Mike de Kock-trained Mujallad and Punta Cana, Barrack Street from the Sean Tarry yard, Whorly Whorly trained by Clinton Binda, Paul Peter’s Rebel’s Champ and Brigtnumberten who is trained by Roy Magner.
There are 19 entries for the Tommy Hotspur Handicap with Champagne Haze allocated top weight of 61kg and Talktothestars slated to carry 60.5kg.
Champagne Haze is trained by Gary Alexander who was also the conditioner of Tommy Hotspur.
The final field will be announced today.
