What A Player to prove too good again in Breeders Guineas

-

Viv Greybe

Teamed up with champion Greg Cheyne again, Alan Greeff-trained What A Player will be tough to beat on the Polytrack at Fairview today when contesting Race 6 and main event, the Breeders Guineas Plate for three-year-old fillies over 1400m.

This ultra-consistent daughter of What A Winter has yet to finish out of the money in her five starts. She was an impressive maiden winner in her penultimate outing on grass at Fairview where she scored by 3.25 lengths in a field of 15 over 1400m. Then switched to the Polytrack, the filly ran on stoutly from off the pace to finish a gutsy 0.75-length second in the Aloe Handicap over 1300m. She will relish the step up in distance and with the advantage of the best draw this time she should go one better.

Expect a bold bid from her stablemate Burning Mist who has Teaque Gould up again after a fast-finishing 0.75-length third in the Aloe Handicap. She could go closer this time when 0.5kg better off and having a much better draw.

Bid Before Sunset, Swift Dancer, Cloud Atlas and Ma Forte make most appeal of the others.

The Greeff-Cheyne combination could strike in Race 1 with Seattle Splendour in a Maiden Plate (F&M) over 1200m.

This filly disappointed in her most recent outing when switched to grass after two promising placed runs on the Polytrack. The three-year-old has a bright chance to recover the losses with Cheyne aboard again.

Best of the remainder are Hashtagselfie, Cowgirlinthesand and Steffi’s Graft.

Greeff-trained three-time winner Fire In The Belly (Cheyne) looks the part in Race 2, a MR 80 Handicap over 1600m.

Though up in class the fouryear-old gelding should follow up after an impressive 5.25-length win over the course and distance in a MR 85 Handicap with Cheyne up.

The pick of the remainder are Twilight Trip, Inviting Lily, Plano and Western Wu.
