Shenanigans to score

BANKER: SON OF DYNASTY LOOKS HARD TO OPPOSE IN RACE 8 AT THE VAAL TOMORROW

- Jack Milner

Tarry could also be on the mark in Race 5 where he saddles Wonderous Climber.

One gets the impression we have by no means seen the best of Shenanigans and Sean Tarry’s charge looks set to notch up his third win in six starts when he lines up in Race 8 at the Vaal tomorrow, a MR 84 Handicap over 1700m.

With the “Tarry Express” back on the rails and chugging along nicely, one can confidently follow the stable and Tarry could have done punters a good turning by running this son of Dynasty in this race.

It is a very tricky card and the champion trainer looks to have provided the betting public with a decent banker.

Shenanigans only began racing halfway through his three-yearold career and his only unplaced run came on debut. He looked a hard horse to beat in his last start but he may have cost himself the race when shifting around at the 250m mark and at the line was beaten just a head by The Rocketman.

That race was over 2000m and the one concern is he is dropping in distance. He does have apprentice Lyle Hewitson up who will knows this horse well and is sure to bring out the best in him.

On his run in December when he beat Tommy Waterdevil by one length, Shenanigans could battle to beat Shogun. Ormond Ferraris’ runner finished third in that race, beaten 1.75 lengths and is now 3.5kg better off.

That could be enough to reverse the result although Shenanigans is the more likely of the pair to improve.

Raydaveric, who ran third, is also 4kg better off for a 1.80-length beating but Shenanigans and Alec Laird’s charge have met again since and Raydaveric was unable to reverse the form and based on their run in February Tarry’s runner should still have the upper hand.

Tarry could also be on the mark in Race 5 where he saddles Wonderous Climber. This threeyear-old, another son of Dynasty, will be having his third run after a layoff in which he was gelded. He ran a decent race last time when a 4.05-length fourth behind Noble Secret who ran fourth in Saturday’s Gauteng Guineas.

This MR 72 Handicap over 1800m should be right up his street and he needs to be included in all exotic bets. Hewitson takes the ride.
