Court sees shooting video

- Ilse de Lange

Video footage of millionaire North West businessperson Wandile Bozwana’s last hours on earth was yesterday shown in the High Court in Pretoria, where four men are on trial for allegedly murdering him.

Boswana’s lover Mpho Baloyi, who was with him when he was gunned down at a red traffic light on the Garsfontein off-ramp of the N1 highway, east of Pretoria, in October 2015, yesterday testified about CCTV footage taken at various places they had visited that day.

The court ruled it would first have to view the footage taken at two Sandton shopping malls, a fast food restaurant and the offramp before ruling if the footage was admissible.

The court eventually only viewed the footage after Judge Papi Mosopa ordered all members of the public attending the trial to leave and re-enter the building after being searched by security officials. This was apparently after complaints that the “bodyguards” of one of the accused was armed.

A former business associate of Bozwana, Midrand businessperson Vusi Mathibela, Sipho Hudla, Robert Mutapa and Paul Khumalo have pleaded not guilty to murdering Bozwana and attempting to murder Baloyi.

Baloyi testified that she and Bozwana had left her house at around 9am and first went to Sandton City and then to Michaelangelo Towers mall, where they had manicures and pedicures and Bozwana had his hair cut.

They had lunch at a fast food restaurant before leaving for Pretoria at about 2pm.

Baloyi last year testified that they were on their way to a car dealer when they stopped at the Garsfontein off-ramp. She saw a silver BMW approaching, one of the passenger doors opening and then heard sounds and something hitting the car.

She at first thought it was a smash-and-grab incident but Bozwana leaned over her protectively. She put the hazard lights on, started hooting and drove through a red traffic light to get away.

The trial continues.
