A rejuvenating birthday

REVIVE WELLNESS SPA: FUTURE OF BODY RELAXATION

- Kgosi Modisane

While finding my mojo, I revived my mind, body and soul.

Turning a new age is never a comforting thing. Depending on the age, one can either feel life’s challenges taking their toll or embrace the new adventures which await.

For me it was the latter. Having survived a traumatic 2017, the best way I could comfortably enjoy my birthday was through spending a day in solitude and solace which I found at the Revive Wellness Spa.

Located in Joburg’s midtown suburb of Highlands North, on the corner of Athol and Randjeslaagte streets, this oasis of relief and refinery houses some of the best massage therapists and beauty technicians, together with top-of-the-range technologies in the body rejuvenation spaces.

Owned by a young cosmopolitan woman, Leeya, and managed by Lolo, the spa is a true reflection of their abundant hearts. From the moment you step through the doors, to the bittersweet departure, feelings of comfort and peace echo from the walls right into your soul.

For me, this spa came highly recommended by one of my celebrity friends, actor and model Zwelethu Dube, who found it a fitting birthday gift to present me, given the bumpy end to my year.

Without hesitation, I grabbed the opportunity with both hands as it was just what I needed to clear my mind as well as re-centre myself for the new age and year ahead of me. I booked a full day to spend with no one else but me, my thoughts and emotions.

Spread over three floors, the establishment houses over five single and couple massage rooms, two pools (including a salted flotation pool), manicure and pedicure floor, hair salon/barbershop, juice bar and mini restaurant, relaxation deck, sonar and steam room as well as a health and fitness gym on the top floor.

Eager to meet any expectations of their clients, the qualified staff were warm, cheerful and dedicated to make the experience a pleasant one.

Overwhelmed with feelings of excitement, like a child at a theme park, I robed up and headed straight into my first session which was a full back, neck and body massage.

Scheduled over an hour-and-ahalf, the massage therapist used signature oils and aromas to relieve my body of the toxic tensions which piled up over the festive season.

Being spoilt for choice, I opted to go for the spa’s signature body massages, a decision which left me weak at the knees with contentment and serenity by the time is was over.

Following the aromatic body massage, I was introduced to a bubbly aesthetician, who then

pampered me with a full facial that included deep tissue skin exfoliation, facial cell repairing and rejuvenation as well as toning and skin moisturising.

Apart from her well informed advice on how best to look after my face and skin, it was delightful to share conversation on life and the joys it may bring.

Having gone through almost half of my visit at Revive Wellness Spa, a light lunch in the form of a Cassin chicken salad and a healthy, freshly produced smoothie was served on the second floor deck, which also meant sun-kissed selfies, showing off my revived self and luminous skin glow.

After lunch it was now time for my mani and pedi session. However, with it came the challenge of selecting one of the facility’s two equally talented nail-technicians.

Having decided on two colours from their wide range of nail polish, it was time to soak my feet in a bubble foot spa and polish my nails as I sipped on my smoothy.

Sharing their pearls of wisdom about growing up and turning a new age, my day at Revive Wellness Spa was one adorned by the beauty and wellness gods.

Truly a birthday experience well lived and shared.

The only problem it brings is finding another pleasant way to celebrate my next birthday, but at least I have 11 more months to conjure up a plan.
