PSYCHIC TV STAR: MISSION IS HELPING OTHERS TO HEAL

- Adriaan Roets

‘What I want to get from this show is the healing of a nation.’

She doesn’t sit in a booth wearing a purple turban and gazing into a crystal ball. There’s no whisky voice or Tarot cards. She doesn’t need the mystic lighting of candles. If you didn’t know any better Cindy Kruger, 38, would seem like a regular South African, but on March 7 the country will crowd around the water-cooler to talk about her. Kruger is a medium and this coming week she will take centre stage in Spirit, Fox Life’s new locally commissioned show.

Viewers will get insight into Kruger’s ability to connect with those in another realm. During the show she will guide celebrities and other South Africans using her gift.

Kruger, who was born with the talent, tried for years to supress it. But she eventually embraced her receptiveness of different planes of existence. “I’ve always had spirits pushing me to do this. For me, it was always them pushing and guiding me,” she says.

The fact that she can bring comfort into others’ lives made it necessary for her to define herself as a psychic medium and it’s turned into a successful career.

Kruger has been covered by the media and has had numerous radio spots over the years and she has never had to fight to convince anybody of her gift.

“It’s never been about convincing others, but more about following a pursuit to heal people. Now it’s

gone bigger

into healing a nation. God will always present the right people at the right time,” she says. Spirit started production in January, but having TV cameras all around didn’t change her readings. She says that what you see in the show is how informal readings play out. “With an informal session all I get is your name and cellphone number. I don’t even need a surname. You come in, we discuss how the reading is going to take place and we begin our reading. “On set we just had the formalities of a person’s name and surname – and we did have a criteria that if there was some- one specific a person wanted to connect with that they be named in terms of the time-frame of our shoot.

“We worked around the logistics of it – but I didn’t meet any of the celebrities or others beforehand. I stayed in my room until it was time to go down.”

The experience was, however, gratifying on a personal level. “It’s involved serious growth to read past cameras and past a lot of crew on site, because there was so much energy, but I’m grateful for the growth because I pushed myself.

“You need a lot of rest time with this gift, you really get drained. You know your limits, and if you don’t rest, you get sick,” Kruger reveals.

If you ever see her coughing or wrapped up in a blanket, she might have had a tough reading. Kruger says headaches and bronchitis are usually the after-effect of over-exertion for her.

“I’ve learned how to respect this gift and not to get drained and to know what pace to go at. I love a hot bath after a long day,” she adds.

“Previously, when radio became such a big thing with me, I started establishing boundaries. I started to know when to rest before or after a show,” she says.

Spirit will feature celebrities across the continent includinge Boity Thulo, Anita Erskine, Denrele, Pappy Kojo, Basketmouth, Navy Kenzo, Kim Jayde, iFANI and Rozanne McKenzie.

“What I want to get from this show is the healing of a nation. I want to see love. It’s very hard to forgive and forget but maybe I can help.

“I find that South Africans are pretty open (to connecting to the spirit world), but I do feel that I don’t want to change anybody to believe in this – I’m just creating an awareness of what my gift can give to people.”
