Gloves off in four-day race

- – Sports Staff

With four teams in the hunt for Sunfoil Series honours, the gloves will be off when South Africa’s premier four-day competition resumes today.

The Warriors (116.42), Cape Cobras (115.78), Knights (112.56) and Titans (110.76) are embroiled in a serious title battle, with the Dolphins (99.40) having little more than a mathematical chance and only pride left to play for for the Highveld Lions (82.82) when the penultimate round starts.

The Warriors will continue their charge for a maiden title as a franchise when they host the champions the Knights in East London, while the Cobras will host the Titans in Paarl in two matches that could go a long way in deciding the overall winner.

Warriors coach Rivash Gobind (above) admits the match at Buffalo Park presents a knockout scenario for the pair.

“The way the log is looking, from one to five everyone is close to each other,” he said.

Knights coach Nicky Boje believes the team wanting to be champs next weekend will have to win both remaining games.

“It’s going to be important to do things right starting this weekend,” said Boje.

In Paarl, the Cobras will have the momentum heading to the game after they overcame the Dolphins in the previous round.

In the third match, the Lions host the Dolphins.
