Highlands Park will not make the same mistake they made when they were promoted to the Absa Premiership two years ago, sources have told Phakaaathi. When they were promoted the last time, the Lions of the North made wholesale changes and also fired the coach who had won them promotion but things didn’t work out and they were relegated the same year. “They have learnt from their mistakes. They will not be making major changes this time around and the coaches have said they are happy with the squad and believe they can make it in the top flight,” said a source.

A source at SuperSport United has told this paper that the club are considering bringing back Gordon Igesund (above) to the club next season following the departure of Eric Tinkler last month. Igesund, who is unemployed, has been out of the coaching scene since his days with Highlands Park. “He is available and he knows the club very well which makes it easy for everybody. I’m not saying he will be the coach, but his name is in the hat with the rest of the coaches who are being considered,” said the source. Igesund coached SuperSport from 2014 before leaving in 2016.

“Kaitano Tembo knows that the next six games are important for him and the club.” Those are the words of a source within SuperSport United, who said interim coach Tembo (above) is aware that the powers-that- be are keeping a close eye on him as he has been tasked with seeing Matsatsantsa A Pitori through the rest of the season after the departure of Eric Tinkler. Word has it that if Tembo does well enough to help United finish in the top eight, he may be considered for the top job on a full-time basis.
