Mkhize keen to play in final on home ground
Thamsanqa Mkhize (below) believes the prospect of playing the Nedbank Cup final in their home stadium gives his Cape Town City side extra incentive to go all the way in the competition.
The organisers have already announced that the final will be played at Cape Town Stadium on May 19, with the next step for City a home game against Mamelodi Sundowns in the quarterfinals.
“The final is in Cape Town and we want to be there,” said Mkhize, whose side face another tough task in overcoming Absa Premiership leaders Sundowns.
Already in the 2018 Nedbank Cup thus far, City have had to beat last year’s league champions Bidvest Wits and Soweto giants Orlando Pirates. “It is a good draw,” said Mkhize. “As much as we are playing good teams … every player is excited to play those teams. I believe in the cup anything is possible. We respect Sundowns but I believe in my team-mates, if we prepare better and execute what we do, we can become victorious.”
The City rightback won a place in the Bafana squad in the first part of this season, called up by Stuart Baxter for the World Cup qualifiers against Burkina Faso and Senegal. He is not, however, part of the squad off to Zambia this week for the Four Nations friendly tournament.
