ABC MOTSEPE LEAGUE TEAM PROFILES

-

African All Stars FC: ABC Motsepe League team based in Ekurhuleni and using Tsakane Stadium as their home ground. Promoted from the SAB League in 2004-2005 season. Alexandra Black Aces: Owned by the Morfou brothers, former owners of Mpumalanga Black Aces that campaigned in the PSL before being sold to John Comitis, who renamed the franchise Cape Town City. They are coached by experienced Jacob Sakala. Alexandra United: In the early 90s, the most successful team from Alexander Township gained promotion to the NFD but the team was later sold due to financial problems. They were bought back in 2009 but have gone down a division. Baberwa FC: Another ambitious outfit in the league coached by Jabulani Mendu, the former star player of Mamelodi Sundowns, Moroka Swallows and Kaizer Chiefs. One of three teams that use the Alexandra Stadium for home matches. Dondol Stars: Based in Mamelodi and having only their second season in the Motsepe League after gaining promotion from the Tshwane Region SAB League. Dube Continentals FC: New team in the league. Ga-rankuwa United: The yo-yo team of the league and have been moving among the SAB League, the ABC League and the National First Division for the past six years. Survived relegation by a single point last season and are struggling in the current campaign. JDR Stars: Former champions who won the league title two seasons ago. Fierce competitors who are challenging for the title again. Very consistent and have been in the top three for the last three seasons. Leruma United: Established in 2001 and are having their debut season in the ABC Motsepe League. Maccabi FC: The defending champions after stumbling in the play-offs to win promotion to the National First Division. This season they have roped in experienced campaigners like former Premier Soccer League player Collins Mbesuma to try and win the title and challenge for promotion. M Tigers FC: The feeder team of Mamelodi Sundowns, who use it to prepare players for the PSL team. Inconsistent which is caused by always losing players to the MDC and PSL teams. Pretoria Callies: A debut season for the former giants that once campaigned in the NPSL. The great Lucas “Masterpieces” Moripe was their star player. Swallows FC: The former Moroka Swallows team that got relegated from the PSL to the SAB League in three consecutive years. They have bought ABC Motsepe League status in a bid to try and get the team back in the PSL. Vaal Professionals: Another team that used to campaign in the old NPSL. Once the pride of the Vaal Triangle they are struggling to regain their former glory. Valencia FC: Formed in 2014. This is their first season in the ABC Motsepe League after campaigning in the SAB League previously. Tembisa Sports Centre: New team in the league.
